I have been knitting

Posted in City Adventures, Knitting at 1:51 pm by shawnitalea

I have been working away on Clapotis, I am loving this project.  I was waiting to post on this until I had the name of the yarn next to me, but I keep forgetting so I will add that important fact later.  I do know that I am knitting this in size 10.5 Addi turbos, of course Addi’s I don’t think that I own any others.   I am currently half way through the straight section.

Last weekend my brother and sister-in-law came up from the Salem area for a reptile show.  So Jennilyn and I met up with the to spend some time with the siblings (we were only missing Elise).  They had to pick up a snake and Jennilyn went a little crazy with pictures of all the lovely animals there.  There were snakes, turtles, spiders and lizards as well as some animals with fur.  It was great to see almost all of the siblings in one day!

Jennilyn and I…we were ready to find something to eat.

One of the great things about living in Portland (for me anyway) is being able to get in ones car and drive to the beach on a whim.  This is what I did the weekend before the reptiles, perhaps I should update my blog a little more and then I wouldn’t have three weeks of updates.

Sunday Night Knitting

Posted in City Adventures, Knitting at 8:40 am by shawnitalea

I was unpacking my bedroom last night and finally got my swift and ball winder out of the box.  I took a break from folding laundry (one of my least favorite chores) to wind a lovely hank of Malabrigo.  I have been wanting to knit something with this yarn for a very long time and when Elise and I were out exploring the yarn stores of Portland I found this at Yarn Garden on Hawthorne.  After finishing the laundry and putting away boxes upon boxes I sat down to find a pattern…I knew that I wanted a hat and something that was a little interesting and not boring.  On Ravelry I found this pattern, and it looked perfect!  So at 9:00 I cast on while watching Desperate Housewives and by 11:00 at the end of Brothers and Sisters this is what I had.  I need to go get another skein of this to finish the hat, I just started the decreasing rounds.  Gotta love size 10.5 and chunky yarn.  This is Malabrigo Gruesa, the texture is lovely and I think that it will be nice and warm!

Also this weekend I got a new bag to carry all of my stuff to the office everyday.  I needed something a little more professional looking than the canvas bag that I was using.  I ended up getting a bag from Queen Bee here in Portland.  They are hand made and designed here in the Rose City and I love it!

Friday in the City

Posted in City Adventures at 8:17 am by shawnitalea

My best friend, and almost neighbor, got engaged last weekend at the beach! In celebration we had girls night out down town to stare at the ring and brainstorm the numerous events that are going to occur between now and when they actually get married.  We went to Portland City Grill for Happy Hour, they have amazing food, drinks and atmosphere!   I didn’t get a before picture, but here is an after picture.  We ordered a good chunk of the Happy Hour menu (note: drinks are not half off during Happy Hour at Portland City Grill, but the food is)

It was a great evening, I wish I had gotten a picture of the view.  This is the second time that I have gone to Portland City Grill and both times I have forgotten to get a picture of the view.  It is amazing as the restaurant is on the 30th floor in the middle of the city.

Changes

Posted in Work at 9:40 am by shawnitalea

So things have been changing at an alarming rate in my life.  I got a new job, am getting divorced, and moved to the big city of Portland, OR.  The new job and the move all happened within a three week window.  Things fell into place in such a way that I could not ignore the fact that I was supposed to be moving and starting a new chapter in my life.

Exactly a week ago today I loaded up my jeep and a small U-Haul trailer with most of my belongings and made the four hour drive to my new home.  It was a sad journey but a good amount of time to absorb the change and start to get excited for this new chapter.  I was able to get settled into my new home and unpack the important things (like the kitchen) before I started work on Monday morning.

The new job has great people and is a great opprotunity for my carreer with the big green machine.  I miss the people from Walla Walla so much but am enjoying meeting all new people and watching the dynamics of a new office.  I now ride the bus into work, which was very itimidating to me on the first day.  I was sure that I was going to get lost on the 20 minute ride from my house to work, never mind that I wasn’t going to be changing buses and only walking four blocks downtown.  But, I made it just fine to the office without getting lost (thank goodness my sense of direction has gotten better over the years).
