Saturday Market on Sunday

Posted in City Adventures at 12:54 pm by shawnitalea

I made it to the Saturday Market on Sunday this week.  There was a painting that has been stuck in my head for the last few weeks since I went to the market the last time.  I think that it will be perfect in my kitchen, and I just keep going back to this painting.  The painting was still there and I visited it again, and am still thinking about it.  It seems that I am being a little indecisive about this piece of art.  Saturday Market is a very interesting place, it is not like anything that I have ever been to before.  I was trying to think of something to compare the Market to and nothing was coming to mind.  The amount of creativity that is there is amazing, so many people who can create some amazing things with their hands and their imagination.  This vendor that I took a picture of looked to me like he should be on the streets of Paris with his cart full of prints.  I am not sure if this was because of the colors that he chose or if it was the bike.

That is Skidmore Fountain in the background of the photo, a Portland landmark that has an interesting history.  If you look on Wikipedia it says that on the dedication of the fountain in 1888 the Weinhards offered to pump beer into the fountain.  And of course since it was on the Internet then it is true ;)   Ok, I really don’t know how true that statement is, but it would be an interesting idea to have a beer fountain in the middle of what is now Saturday Market.

Little McKay Creek

Little McKay Creek
Last night I saw Little McKay Creek live at Dukes in Gresham. They are a band from Pendleton, Oregon that I have heard numerous times. It was like a little bit of home came to the city to visit. They have a new CD out called Remember, great music and dedicated to a great man.

The Shoes Say it All

As I was unpacking my room this afternoon my shoes got grouped together before going into the closet.  I thought that this array of shoes was pretty funny, from my fire boots to the heels that I wear to the office.  I have all the boxes unpacked and the house is mostly organized.  Which means that I can enjoy this great weather that we are going to be having in the next couple of days.

I have been knitting on my thermal sweater, I have a little over an inch left before I switch it up for the arms.  Not sure if I will be getting much knitting done with the 70+ degree weather, I am looking forward to going for a hike tomorrow.

New place and new bruises

Posted in City Adventures at 9:53 pm by shawnitalea

In the last two days I have moved 4.8 miles up the road to a great little two bedroom apartment.  But, I also had to run to Walla Walla, WA to get the rest of my belongings that would not fit in the old place.  So 4.8 miles turned in a whirlwind trip across the great state of Oregon with a quick jaunt into Washington.  Somehow in all of this moving I managed to give myself large bruises on each extremity of my body, I tend to use my body to push and manhandle boxes and furniture to where I want them to go instead of muscles.  I think this is a practice that most women use when moving, not that I have done a study on this.  But I have moved quite a bit and observed men and women.

It was nice to make a quick stop into the Walla Walla Ranger District Office and see some friendly faces.  Although I was told to “have a great life” when I left by one of my favorite people.  I will be back to visit my friends and family in Walla Walla, I will not be leaving you forever friends.  Hoping to get some pictures of my sweater project up in the next couple of days…been slightly preoccupied with the move and packing this last week.

4 days

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:51 am by shawnitalea

In 4 days I will be able to have a clean kitchen, food left in the frig when I get home from work, my house will not smell like certain herbs and there will be no rodents running around.  I will be moving and I am looking forward to it so very much.   I will no longer have a view of the mountian but I will have a view of a nice stream and no sound of I-5 out my kitchen window.  This is good, so very good.

I am also feeling that I have a purpose at work, something that is mine and that I am working on.  This new project will be mine and I am super excited at the possibilities that could come from this.  So, in all this has been a good week even if the sun went away and we have the threat of rain again.   Things are looking up!

Mt. Tabor Park and Sunshine

Posted in City Adventures at 8:52 pm by shawnitalea

The sun was out today and it was in the low 70’s! It was a great day for a hike in the middle of the city.  Andrea, Megan and I went to Mt Tabor Park to hike around on the paths and roads that circle the park. There were quite a few other people that had the same idea.  But it didn’t feel crowded at all.

This weather is supposed to hold for a few days and then head back into the cold and rain. So I plan to enjoy this while it lasts.

I might have a problem…

As I was leaving the office this evening I looked back at my desk and realized I might have a slight Post-It addiction. But they keep me on track and this system seems to be working for me.

Fun in Walla Walla

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:27 am by shawnitalea

Jennilyn and I went to Walla Walla to visit the family for not a very fun reason.  Our littlest sister was in a car accident and we went to spend some time with her so we could make sure that she was alright.  She was just fine, a few bruises but other than that good to go.  As it usually is when all three of us sister get together there was much silliness.  Mom was looking for a new bed frame for the new house that they have bought and are fixing up, so all four of us were at the furniture store.  Even though we are all adults (25, 23 and 18) we seem to revert to 5 years old when we are together.  Here is Jennilyn at the furniture store, in a small soccer chair.
