School starting
I started my online classes today, I will be very busy and most likely very quiet here. Well, not that that will be much of a change over the last six months. But here are a few pics of what I have been up to lately.

Heidi’s 30th Birthday Bash…with a bouncy castle!

Went to Jewel Meadow and saw some elk

Had some fun at Powells trying on some new glasses to go with my new hair cut.

Thank you
I was reading through all of my blog posts from when I started this blog and was getting a little down on myself. I was feeling that I had been moving backwards in my life since I have moved to Portland. Do you ever have those days where you questions the decisions that you have made? And wonder how you got to where you from where you were. Yup, it has been one of those days. I think that it started last night when I was getting quarters to do some laundry at my apartment. I was remembering that not too long ago I had my own washer and dryer in my own laundry room. I think that I was only remembering the good things about my marriage and the home. I wasn’t remembering all of the negative aspects (which I really won’t go into, this is not the place). At times like these I am so thankful for my best friends and my family. Oh, I can’t forget my dog Mac has been so very helpful since he has come to live with me in Portland. So, I would just like to thank you all!
I had to put Heidi in twice just ’cause she is that awesome!

Very bad blogger
Wow! I promised a more detailed blog about the trip to Europe and now I have so many more things to report upon. So, I think that the Europe post will have to wait. Once I got home I have pretty much gone somewhere every weekend. Here is a quick review in pictures.
We had girls camping weekend at the Oregon Coast:

And then there was my birthday weekend:

The next weekend I went to visit my family in Joseph and got my dog:

And finally last weekend Andrea and I went to Leavenworth to see a friends band play at the opening of a new beer garden. The Michael Carlos Band performed at the grand opening of Der Hinterhof…great music and a great atmosphere!

I am loving summer in Portland and all the places that are around us to visit!

What I did on my Summer Vacation
I feel as if I have had a life time of things happen since I last wrote anything. I have had a very busy summer fire season. I went to California, Wyoming, and Oregon three separate occasions resulting in an extended time away from my friends, family and puppies. But so is life. After fire season there was school and work still. So, I have been a little busy for the last four months.
There was knitting, hiking, reading and a lot of driving (lots and lots!). And some sleeping, but not really enough I thought. Sleeping in a tent on the ground for the majority of the summer is usually the husband’s job and I think that he can keep that part of it
Hiking on the Umatilla National Forest (this was on the Umatilla Rim Trail with Mac)

PBR in Pendleton during the Round Up

Visiting Heidi in Portland for Race for the Cure (this was the night before)

Fishing on the Umatilla National Forest

And seeing some awesome new places while getting paid. (outside of Pinedale, WY)

And that is what I did on my summer vacation. Lots of fun and little sleep. There will be some knitting in the next post as I have been working on a new sweater and a hat for one of the babies at work.

Is it really March already?
I can’t believe that it has almost been a year since the husband and I have bought our house. It is exciting! We have been looking back over the last year and seeing if we got everything completed that we wanted to. Overall we are happy with what we have accomplished, there are still some projects that we would like to get done before spring actually gets here.
Here is a quick recap:
1. Removed horrible popcorn ceiling before we moved in.
2. Painted each room (the whole house was white and boring)
3. Removed the five ceiling fans (thanks Father-in-Law)
4. Removed the wall of Junipers in the front yard that hadn’t been taken care of in 30 years.
5. Replaced the carpet in our master bathroom with tile (carpet is very yucky in a bathroom)
6. Covered the dark paneling in the laundry room.
7. Put new sod in the back yard and moved the dog kennel to the shade of the large tree.
Things that we would still like to complete:
1. Plant a garden in the back yard.
2. Somehow rearrange the kitchen so it is not so cave-ish.
3. Put hardwood floors in the dining room.
4. New windows through out the house, most importantly replacing the 10 foot slider in the dining room.
I think that is about all that we should focus on in the next year. I am excited to see what this next year brings to our little family.
On a completely unrelated note here is a picture of the husband airing out his bunker gear in the carport. He is saying that it smells funny. Upcoming knitting project to come.

Welcome to the world of Colour
My littlest sis is having a birthday this weekend, Happy Birthday! I can’t believe it is that time of year already. But here is what I am working on for her present, Endpaper Mittens. These are going to be great in the HUGE snow storm that they are having right now, they are snowed in as I type. These mittens are working up quite nicely and I will leave it at that ( I don’t want to jinx myself).

I was slightly confused with the whole left hand carrying the yarn thing for a while. And my left index finger may have lost circulation for a few minutes at the mercy of finishing the row. But I am getting a little quicker as I go. Updates to come and the first mitten is finished, hopefully this evening.

Field Trip to Knitochet
This afternoon the ladies at the office and I took a short field trip to the LYS Knitochet. We had a great time feeling this yarn and that yarn. JoAnne and I found the most wonderful colorway from Mountain Colors Bearfoot. I have knit some socks with this yarn before as a gift and loved them so much that I almost didn’t want to give them away. But, of course I did give them to my mother-in-law and I assume that she is enjoying them. Jessica also showed this great book to me, 2-at-a-time socks, there are some great patterns in here and the book is spiral bound so that it will lay flay when you are knitting! How great is that!? Here is a picture of our great finds. The Mountain Colors is called Wilderness, I am excited to start on the Sugar Maple pattern with this Bearfoot yarn.
On a wonderful husband note, when I got home these were waiting for me and the husband announced that he would be making dinner and had bought a nice bottle of Three Legged Red. I think this has something to do with the fact that he is leaving on Sunday for two weeks, not sure though.

Over the hills and through the woods…and a Christmas Tree
On this lovely Sunday morning the husband and I went into the woods and found our first Christmas tree.
First we hiked through the snow and wind, notice the gray clouds above the husbands head.
Then we searched and searched for that perfect tree, I think the husband was sick of me looking through the whole forest for the perfect tree. So, he gave me three more trees that I could look at. And we finally found the perfect ONE.
Then we (read husband) had to dig (someone had to take pictures). And he had to dig and dig and dig…
And then we took a self portrait, which showed me I need to work on this skill. We are slightly off center in this picture, but you can see it was cold out.
We finally got our tree home and had to put it in the stand so that it was not leaning, which is difficult because for some reason our Christmas tree stand has one screw that won’t move.
After leveling, we decorated the tree and I love it!

Quit knitting update: I have been knitting a sweater, Wicked, I am loving it. Here is a photo of the progress. It is knit top down in the round with no seams. Which is great. I am using Size 7 32″ Addi needles and the yarn is Cascade 220 that is a purple/gray color.

One Last Final…a good breakfast to help
So when I was little and had a big day at school my mom would always make us a good breakfast to help us focus. So on the day that I have my biggest final, Anatomy and Physiology, I made myself a breakfast that my mom had made when I was little. I do not even know what it is called, I am sure that there is many many names for it, but you cut the center out of a piece of bread and fry the egg and bread together. Now, I know that this is not the most healthy breakfast but it was tradition and I am hoping that it will help me to focus and study and not worry about my grumbling tummy.
Here is a picture of my breakfast, notice the large amount of studying that is going on around the breakfast.

Finished Socks…Columbine Peaks
Today was a lovely Saturday of sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee and my knitting needles. I was able to finish my mom’s socks and since I can’t keep a secret she already knows that they are coming her way. But I am still excited to have her see them. They are to be for snowmobiling, as they are 100% wool they are going to be great.
