This is called avoiding homework…

Yes, that is an almost completed mitten and scarf. The scarf is now complete and the mitten still has no thumb. And my homework is still in progress. I think this is something I need to work on. But my Seahawks finally won again this week (granted they played the Lions but I will take what I can get).

School starting

I started my online classes today, I will be very busy and most likely very quiet here.  Well, not that that will be much of a change over the last six months.  But here are a few pics of what I have been up to lately.

Summer gone already?

Posted in Summer Fun, The Great Outdoors, school at 3:39 pm by shawnitalea

This week has been a busy one.  Monday was Labor Day, which Becky and I spent traveling home from a fire in Omak, WA.  We were on the Milepost 281 Fire on the Colville Indian Reservation.  It was a quick up and down fire camp, but it was a great time.  And on the way home we got to take the Keller Ferry.

We had to leave Karrie and Laura behind for one round on the ferry:

Here is my current project on the ferry, they are called Walter’s Manly Socks:

After getting home from the fire late Monday night I got to catch up at the office from being gone.  I also got to register for classes for the upcoming quarter at Eastern Oregon University.  I was finally able to get on the phone with my advisor, we had been playing phone tag for about a month.  And I found out some great news! I have 24 upper division credits left to graduate, all of my course work is done for my major and two minors! This means that on March 20, 2010 I will be done with my undergraduate degree! I am pretty excited about this fact, hence all the exclamation points.

I am in love with Firefox

Posted in dogs, school at 11:33 pm by shawnitalea

So, this quarter I am taking an online class that requires me to use Blackboard.  Which is all great and good, but I ran into some problems with Internet Explorer 7 and Blackboard.  Mainly I couldn’t write in text boxes, which is important because that is how you turn in assignments.  Long story short, I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and quickly fell in love.  The main feature that I love is that there is spell check whenever you type! Which for me is HUGE!  Also Ravelry and Flickr seem to work better, but I am not sure if this is just my imagination.  Very well could be.

In puppy news, Hunter has decided that he no longer wants to get into his crate at night to go to sleep.  This has been very upsetting because he usually just climbs right in and goes to sleep, but we have been having to bribe him as well and slightly push him to go to bed.  So after much thought and deliberation the husband and I have decided that the boys (as we fondly refer to them) are old enough to sleep in the laundry room.  With a child gate across the door, of course, so that they can’t get out but still get heat. Hunter is now a very happy puppy, as you can see by how he is already curled up on his new bed.  But, Mac was a little confused as to where I was telling him to go to bed.  He was running all over the place as if to say “Here?  Do you want me here?  How about here?  Look I am in my crate! How about on your bed mom? WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO GO?” (Mac is part lab and part poodle and slightly spastic)

They are both settled down nicely in their new bedroom now and hopefully sleep well.

One Last Final…a good breakfast to help

Posted in Family, school tagged , at 8:52 am by shawnitalea

So when I was little and had a big day at school my mom would always make us a good breakfast to help us focus.  So on the day that I have my biggest final, Anatomy and Physiology, I made myself a breakfast that my mom had made when I was little.  I do not even know what it is called,  I am sure that there is many many names for it, but you cut the center out of a piece of bread and fry the egg and bread together.  Now, I know that this is not the most healthy breakfast but it was tradition and I am hoping that it will help me to focus and study and not worry about my grumbling tummy.

Here is a picture of my breakfast, notice the large amount of studying that is going on around the breakfast.

One week to go…where to go from here?

Posted in Family, school at 11:13 am by shawnitalea

We have one week left in winter quarter and it does not seem to be going fast enough.  It just keeps dragging on and on and on…you get the picture?  Oh well, four more days of actual class and then finals.  I have to decide what classes I want to take next quarter, it depends on if I want to enter into the WSU BSN program or the WWCC RN program.  I know that I will have a BS degree whichever way that I go, it just depends on if I want to have a Bachelors degree specifically in nursing and one in education or one in education and the Associates degree of nursing.  I am leaning towards staying here at WWCC due to the commuting to Tri-Cities and the added costs of the program.  I will then graduate with an associates degree in nursing, go to work and take night classes to get my BSN in the next year.  So ultimately I will have two degrees, the time-line is just going to be different depending on where I chose to go next year.

This is a difficult decision to make and I have gone both ways numerous times.  The husband and I were looking at our calendar for the upcoming months and realized that he will be gone for the majority of the first months of 2008.  He will be in Wisconsin, Seattle, Mississippi, Yakima and then Wisconsin again.  After all of these trips he will be back to work for the Forest Service and back in the mountains for the summer.  It will be a great first year of marriage :)   In all seriousness, this is a “normal” year for us and I think that it is one reason that we get along so well.  We are both flexible and utilize the time that we have together quite well.

On the old front, I got new glasses yesterday.  They are bifocals, my lovely best friend pointed out that I am falling apart in my ‘old age’.
