Camping in the Rain

Posted in City Adventures, weather at 10:00 am by shawnitalea

Heidi, Matt and I went camping this weekend for an Air-soft tournament/game.  Well Heidi and I went camping for the sake of camping and Matt went for the Air-soft.  This is something that I must learn living in my new climate, it rains here.  And it rains here quite a bit, quite often.  This does not change when one wants to camp and to get out of the city for a bit.  But, we had a good time and enjoyed the warm breakfast at the little cafe on the way home. Here are some things that one must remember when they are camping on the Western side of the state (the rainy side).

Great friends

And I just thought this was funny, the paintball field that we were at had some facilities set up. One of them was some water for the fires, I assume that this was for the summer and not the spring when your campfire can go out just from the rain. But there were three barrels labeled “Fire Water”…funny in my mind.

Spring is peaking through

Posted in City Adventures, weather at 9:08 am by shawnitalea

On my walk home from the bus yesterday I saw some new growth starting to come up in the neighbors garden.  I was so excited, I took a picture with my phone so please excuse the poor quality.

Hints of Spring

Of course on the news this morning they were talking about the possibility of snow in the mountains this weekend and the begining of next week. Which will be great when I head to Boise, ID on Monday morning. I do love the snow so I am pretty excited to be able to see it at least one more time before spring actually shows up.

Winter arrived in Walla Walla

Snow on the Walla Walla Ranger District

We have snow! I am loving it! This is the first snow in Walla Walla this year, and we are forcasted to get snow all day today.  Driving is a little difficult for some, we all need to remember to keep a little extra space between us and the other drivers on the road.

Look what is growing…

Posted in weather at 7:08 pm by shawnitalea

So I was sent to Cali for a week or so on a fire assignment and when I got home there were some pretty blooms in my yard to greet me. It was a nice change from the smoke and ash that was in the air. There are little jaleppeno growing from the flowers.

One thirsty looking flower…it has been pretty hot around here lately.

Hopefully I will be home long enough to see what else is going to be growing in the next few weeks. But with how the weather is acting and the fires that are already burning I am not sure how long I will be home. Time will tell.

Fire School

Posted in Work, weather at 7:59 am by shawnitalea

Last week I got the opportunity to attend fire school…is was lovely. I got to see a very small bit of what the husband does on a daily basis during the summer. The weather was perfect and we got to see some amazing views of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest (sometimes called the W bar W). Here are some lovely pics…

The weather was cold today, here is a picture of our older dog Mac with a frozen beard.  He is part poodle.

A sewing project…for knitting of course!

Posted in Knitting, weather at 11:00 pm by shawnitalea

First things first…we woke up to snow this morning.  And it snowed for most of the day.  It was one of those first overcast days that I enjoy, and then they just get a little old.  But here is a picture of the surprise that I woke up to this morning.

real snow

After work I decided that I needed to have a little knitting bag that I could take my sock project with me to work or such.  So I found a pattern to loosely base my own little bag on.  I got to wander through the quilt shop down town looking through all of the great colors and textures of material.  I finally settled on a green family color.  Here are some pictures of the final project.  I am not as happy as I would have like to be with it.  But it will work for what it needs to and I can make a more polished version later.

and it is snowing again this evening! I can’t wait to see what is waiting for me when I get up in the morning.

SNOW!!

Posted in Knitting, weather at 10:12 am by shawnitalea

Yes, there was snow on the ground when I woke up this morning at 5am.  I am so excited!  The first snow of the season! Granted, it is now raining and there is no evidence that it was snowing at all this morning but I KNOW that it was.  I know that it is not a great time for snow with the holiday traveling coming up for parts of our family and the many many people that will be driving this week.  So I hope that everyone drives safely and takes a little extra time when they have to be on the roads.

I have decided that the blanket that I was knitting for the soon to be mom at work was just not what it could have been.  So, I have taken the yarn and am making a sweater out of it.  It is so cute and has come along quite quickly.  I am finishing the second sleeve tonight and then will be able to start to piece it together.  I have started Christmas knitting as well and am loving the yarn that I chose for my moms gift I will have to get some pictures up this afternoon, but it is hand dyed and has so many shades of green, brown and blue.  The husband wore his socks last night for the first time and says that they are lovely, I was happy to see them on his feet.
