Partly Sunny Saturday

It was a great day on the water with my two fishing partners, Brian (of course) and Ben.  I was lucky enough to get my first sturgeon!  The sun was in and out from the clouds, but overall the day was lovely.

And here is one where he almost got away, luckily Brian was able to catch this lovely shot of me.

Snow

We have had an exciting weather week so far.  I am loving all the snow!  On Sunday it started snowing and a little stuck and Monday brought a steady snow.  It makes the property look so pretty!

We have entered the season of wool

Here on the (small) farm we have entered what I like to call the season of wool.  Where feet like to be surrounded by hundreds or thousands of loving stitches, which in turn means socks must hang out and dry on the shower rod.

Wool Season

We also have a creek that seasonally runs from our neighbors pasture and through our back yard to the sheep pasture.  With the massive amounts of rain that we have been having the creek is running strong.  Rogue has decided this it is his personal playground.  He runs up and down the creek bed and into the sheep pasture, where the creek ends in a haphazard pond.  Which causes him to come in at the end of the day as one big mud-ball.  But we love him anyway.

Dirty Rogue

I am going strong on Christmas knitting, and as usual I am falling in love with the projects that are destined to go to someone else’s home.

Taken at the Corvallis Forestry Sciences Lab on the OSU Campus

When we left Portland for our field trip to Corvallis it was rainy, foggy and just plain crappy.  It was sunny and wonderful in Corvallis.  I do love that we have so much variation in the Pacific Northwest.

It’s that time of year

We lit the wood stove last night.  It has been getting pretty chilly in the evenings but still getting sunny and warm-ish during the day.  We have been pretty luckily with this sun, I am getting spoiled.  But this sun is supposed to come to an end and we will be back to the normal Portland area wet and cold fall and winter.  Not really been looking forward to that, but Vitamin D is my good friend this year and hopefully will keep me out of the winter funk.

Quick trip to Eastern Oregon

Brian and I made a quick two day trip to Eastern Oregon to spend some time with my littlest sister before she got married (Congrats little sis!). We left the homestead on Thursday morning and returned late Friday night, or really early Saturday monring. It was a lovely trip and we had some great weather! While we were we made an even quicker trip over to see Hells Canyon. Every time I go back to Wallowa County I am reminded how beautiful it is and it is hard to leave. But it was nice to get home and let the dogs have some room to run and check on our sheep.

Who wouldn’t want to live here? (I think I have convinced Bri to retire here)

We got to see the red fish…that’s what I called them as a kid. Brian the fisherman was very excited and knew all the technical terms.

The river has changed so much from what it is in my memory, it was interesting to see how the landscape changes to accomodate the river.

And Brian was impressed by the deer, it went against all that I am to take this picture. I grew up in Wallowa County making fun of the tourists who took pictures like this. Oh well, it made Brian happy. 🙂

Lovely Weekend

This weekend Mac and I and some friends went for a hike at Milo McIver State Park.  It was beautiful weather and Mac really enjoyed getting out of the house and on a trail.  Here I am looking over the Clackamas River.

After we had enjoyed the sunshine and the warmer weather we decided to try heading up the mountain to see some snow, yes it was an odd decision but I really think the dogs loved it!  Mac got to play fetch in the snow and Kiara ran after Mac.  They both got pretty tired.  Overall it was a lovely Sunday afternoon, I really couldn’t have asked for a better homework free day!

Summer gone already?

This week has been a busy one.  Monday was Labor Day, which Becky and I spent traveling home from a fire in Omak, WA.  We were on the Milepost 281 Fire on the Colville Indian Reservation.  It was a quick up and down fire camp, but it was a great time.  And on the way home we got to take the Keller Ferry.

We had to leave Karrie and Laura behind for one round on the ferry:

Here is my current project on the ferry, they are called Walter’s Manly Socks:

After getting home from the fire late Monday night I got to catch up at the office from being gone.  I also got to register for classes for the upcoming quarter at Eastern Oregon University.  I was finally able to get on the phone with my advisor, we had been playing phone tag for about a month.  And I found out some great news! I have 24 upper division credits left to graduate, all of my course work is done for my major and two minors! This means that on March 20, 2010 I will be done with my undergraduate degree! I am pretty excited about this fact, hence all the exclamation points.
